Everybody wins

I’ve been holidaying for the past three weeks and am slowly catching up on the blogs I regularly consume. One of the big items of news to break while I was away was Adobe’s decision to kill mobile Flash. This can only be a good thing for the future of the Internet. As John Gruber writes:

Apple didn’t win. Everybody won. Flash hasn’t been superseded in mobile by any sort of Apple technology. It’s been superseded by truly open web technologies. Dumping Flash will make Android better, it will make BlackBerrys better, it will make the entire web better. iOS users have been benefitting from this ever since day one, in June 2007.

I do most of my web browsing through either iOS devices or through desktop browsers without Flash installed. I deactivate it in Chrome since Flash is the best way to compromise your computer’s security. I completely agree that it is a better Internet experience, and Adobe’s actions mean we’ll less often be subjected to Flash-reliant websites. This is good news.
