iPhone 4S available in Australia 14 October
I wrote this just after the iPhone 4S announcement, but with Steve Jobs’ death it got left in my draft pile. I may as well publish it now with the iPhone release just a day away.
My “predictions” for the iPhone models turned out to be pretty much correct. Admittedly I was just reading the rumours and agreeing with the ones that sounded the most realistic, so not really much predicting on my part. The only thing wrong about the phones themselves was that the 4S has just 512MB of memory rather than the expected 1GB1.
What I did get wrong was the availability for Australia. Historically, Australia has trailed the US when it comes to getting new iPhones. Last year, the iPhone 4 was available on 24 June in the US but not available until 30 July in Australia. So to get a simultaneous release for the iPhone 4S is a pleasant surprise.
I still think we won’t see any of iTunes Match until next year though. But if I have a shiny new iPhone to play with in the meantime that will be OK.
